"Black Promoters Collective" Established, Announces Maxwell's NIGHT Tour as First Partnership
By Paige Boyd, Managing Editor
A new collective of Black concert promoters are looking to change the way we view live entertainment, and they're kicking off with a huge bang!
On November 16, the Black Promoters Collective was formally announced as "a 100% Black-Owned organization dedicated to advancing the profile of independent Black promoters in the music industry and placing urban music back in the hands of Black promoters at a national and global level," according to PR Newswire.
Consisting of top Black veteran and independent concert promoters, the collective looks to even the playing field in live entertainment. According to the BPC website, "The organization formed to give a voice to the often-overlooked indie Black promoters, citing how the industry has consistently downplayed the significance of Black promoters in urban music. The group was also very vocal about racial inequity in the industry."
Among its members:
Gary Guidry, CEO, BPC and G-Squared Events
Shelby Joyner, president, BPC, and CEO/president, SJ Presents Corp.
Bill Ingram, CFO, BPC, and president, Platinum Productions, LLC.
Shahida Mausi, CSO/SVP, BPC, and founder, The Right Productions, Inc.
Troy Brown, CMO, BPC, and chief architect/president, one50one
Lionel Bea, SVP, BPC, and co-founder, Bay Area Productions
Sulaiman Mausi, SVP, BPC, and president/CEO, The Right Productions, Inc.
Janice Cotton, VP, BPC, and director of business affairs, Bay Area productions
Along with the formal announcement of their collective, BPC also announced their first partnership with GRAMMY Award winning singer-songwriter Maxwell for his 2022 NIGHT Tour, with Anthony Hamilton and Joe as supporting acts. The tour is in support of his upcoming blacksummers'NIGHT album, set to be released in Spring 2022. The tour kicks off March 3 in Dallas, and will include stops in Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, Detroit, and more. Pre-sale starts on November 22, and then it will be open to the public on November 29 at Ticketmaster. In relation to the partnership, Gary Guidry said, “Maxwell is one of the most respected artists in the industry. His body of work and showmanship are second to none. We believe he has a true connection to the culture. We are happy to partner with him on the NIGHT 2022 Tour and look forward to growing this relationship for years to come.”
Added Shelby Joyner: "“Maxwell’s music has been the soundtrack to many of our lives. Right now, people are ready to return to live music and regain a sense of normalcy. As a partner, we look forward to not only promoting the NIGHT 2022 Tour, but also creating space for Maxwell’s fans to safely listen to and enjoy the music they love so much.”
