No Need For A Boycott of The 2016 Grammy Awards
While there are talks about bpycotting the Oscars due to lack of diversity it looks like the 2016 Grammy Awards will be a good year for black artists.
The Grammy Awards, set to air on February 16 on CBS, has thus far been dominated by black artistes as nominees.
Hip hop artiste Kendrick Lamar is in the lead with 11 nominations in major categories, including Album of the Year for To Pimp a Butterfly, Song of the Year for Alright, and Rap Album of the Year. Other black artistes nominated are The Weeknd, who has seven nominations, also including Album of the Year and Record of the Year, Faith Evans, D’Angelo, Whiz Khalifa, Jasmine Sullivan, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Tamar Braxton, Tyrese Gibson, Miguel, Jidenna, and Lalah Hathaway, among others. Hip Hop is even being acknowledged as Run DMC are scheduled to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Let’s hope that it doesn’t just end with nominations, and that these hardworking black artistes do not walk away from next year’s Grammy Awards ceremony empty handed. We’ll be watching.
