Saturday night at approximately 7:20 p.m., a United States Postal Service mail carrier was shoot and killed in the 6000 block of Reed Street in Cheverly, Md.

The victim, 26 year old Tyson Jerome Barnette who was a native of Upper Marlboro, Md., was on duty when he was killed and now the USPS union demands answers.

The brothers and sisters of the USPS family have come out to express their anger and their safety concerns about the profession they work in and the areas they are sent to achieve the task of delivering mail. Many of the victim's peers and co-workers came to the scene to express how in recent months they have had to deliver mail, later and later into the day and sometimes way into the night, past after the sun had set. The fact that this could have been any one of them, on any given day haunts them and complaints have been filed and there's no end to it any time in the near future. The USPS released a statement where it was made all to clear that any one who dares to kill an official of the government, while that individual is involved in their official duties as an officer of the law can and will be sentenced to death.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Prince George’s County Homicide Unit at 301.772.4925.

Callers who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Solvers at 866.411.TIPS (8477).
